The Whitley Bay Playhouse will play host to the world renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band this Sunday (April 3).

The ‘Brassed Off’ band provided the soundtrack for the 1996 comedy-drama starring Ewan McGregor.

Regarded as a British insitution, the band returns to the stage after a successful 2015 that saw members sail through the Yorkshire Regional Championships to qualify for the Finals of the National Championships of Great Britain at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.

The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is promising an entertaining show with a magnificent programme of popular material including Carnival in Venice, 1812 Overture, Death or Glory, Glenn Miller tribute and, of course, an extended section of tunes from the hit movie Brassed Off.

Formed in 1917, the history of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band is filled with competition success.

In the past the band has also been invited to perform at many high profile events such as the FIFA World Cup and the BAFTA Awards.

Tickets for the event are £21 and are available from the Box Office, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 10.30am to 2.30pm plus until the show starts on event days.

Tickets can also be purchased on the booking hotline 0844 248 1588 or online by visting www.playhousewhitleybay.co.uk.
