AN ACTOR from Whitley Bay will be treading the boards in an ambitious musical next month.
Blyth Music and Theatre Company will be staging Chess at the Phoenix Theatre, Blyth, and borough-born Kevin Gilroy will be playng the part of Freddie Trumper.
Following months of dedication and hard work by producer Jackie Grey, musical director Bob Crabtree, rehearsal accompanist Peter Robertson, and a talented cast of principals and experienced chorus members, Chess will brought to life this March.
Chess is set against the backdrop of the Cold War, where intrigue and politics interweave with a story of love lost and won during a chess tournament between American and Russian champions.
Lyrics and music are by the legendary Tim Rice, and Benny Andersson and Bjorn Alvaeus of Abba fame.
Kevin, who lives in Whitley Bay and works as a health and safety officer, will be joined by fellow Whitley Bay Operatic Society member Marie Swann who will play the role of Florence Vassey.
