IN March 2007 the News Guardian printed my letter complaining that all bus services were to be withdrawn from the section of Broadway in Tynemouth between Holy Saviour's Church and Beach Road, and since March 25, 2007 the residents, many of whom are older or with disabilities, have been without any buses and have to walk to Tynemouth Village if they want to travel to Whitley Bay or North Shields.
At the time I also wrote to Go North East, the Mayor John Harrison and to our Member of Parliament Alan Campbell.

I received no acknowledgement from Go North East, and although the Mayor did acknowledge my letter he did nothing further.

Mr Campbell on the other hand has been extremely helpful.

He has been in regular contact with Go North East, who at first denied that there was no bus covering the area mentioned, and he has kept me informed on a regular basis of how the matter was progressing.

Imagine my delight earlier this week when I received a letter from Mr Campbell informing me that a bus service is to be introduced on September 1, 2008 which will cover our area.

The 75 and 76 service will provide a bus every 30 minutes along Broadway to Whitley Bay and North Shields and extending into Newcastle.

I have passed on the good news to a number of people in the area and all are extremely happy and looking forward to September 1.

I would like on behalf of us all to express my sincere and grateful thanks to Mr Campbell for the time and effort he has given to this matter and for resolving it to the satisfaction of so many.
