I AM writing to you regarding the issue of planning permission for the erection of fencing at Wellfield Middle School.
As many of your readers are I am sure aware now, an error was made in the production of plans for submission to the planning department. The initial plan indicated that it was our intention to fence off the recreation field adjacent to our field/car
park.

I would like to re-assure your readers and local residents of South Wellfield that this was never our intention. The mistake has been picked up and consultation is being carried out on the correct plans.

May I re-assure our local residents that it is Wellfield Middle School's policy always to work with and listen to our local community and we appreciate community involvement in our school.

The decision to seek permission to fence off our playing fields to the community has been a very difficult one for us to take, but is a step we consider as a last resort to enable us to meet our obligations to
ensure the safety of our pupils.

This field is the school's official playing field and is well used for both school games and out of school use. However, our ability to maintain this as a safe and clean environment is being made increasingly difficult by a minority of inconsiderate users.

A small number of dog walkers who use our facilities are failing to clear up the mess left by their pets. Also, we have on a number of occasions found glass and litter left on the field by those using it as a meeting place.

We have tried to resolve these issues in a variety of ways in the past without success.

Again, can I apologise to those who will be inconvenienced by this decision.

MR S.W COLLINSON
Headteacher,
Wellfield Middle School
