THE council are always publicising their own efforts and achievements throughout the borough for the various activities and events which keep the children in the area occupied, and quite rightly so.
Anything which will stop the youngsters from being involved in any form of unacceptable behaviour has to be commended.

I would therefore like to put it to the council that they should not increase their pool entrance fees by 300 per cent in the sc
hool holidays.

Their own summer programme states that there is no "off peak" swimming times for EASE card holders during the school holidays.

This, in effect, means that anyone who wishes to swim between 9am to 12 noon, and 1pm to 4pm has to pay full rate of £3 instead of the normal £1, a 300 per cent increase.

I would even like to see the council go that one step further and give financial assistance to encourage the youngsters take up swimming or use the other facilities during those miserable wet days when there seems nothing to do.

Heaven help the youngsters who like a game of badminton during the holidays, as their game will go up from £1 to £6.20 (with EASE card)
Makes 300 per cent inflation look like a bargain, doesn't it?
Ask any mother trying to occupy the family and it always comes at a price, but come on, council, why put up prices during the holidays?
