I WOULD like to express my appreciation of our local police.
Leaving Whitley Bay Metro station on Sunday afternoon with my visiting daughter and her American husband and two of her daughters, I was dismayed by the language of a group of teenagers on the station.

As they went through the porch one was heard to use the 'F' word, but a big, Geordie Copper immediately put a stop to this. All three were smartly apprehended for swearing in a public place.

My daughter was delighted; she says she feels safer now, on her visits, than she would have done even five years ago. Her husband was most impressed at this example of the British Copper on the beat.

Thank you for making us all feel more secure and making a stand against the depravity of offensive language.

J MARR
Whitley Bay.
