As you and all the residents will know, we have a beautiful coastline.
Cullercoats Bay and Tynemouth Longsands are our favourites but one morning this week, we were absolutely disgusted that the beaches have been polluted with litter, including empty vodka bottles, lager cans, cigarette packets and polystyrene cartons.
We know that the day before was a lovely day and that lots of groups of young people were eating and drinking on the beach.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that but why do they feel it's okay just to leave their mess where they've sat? Why can't they take it to the skips at the end of the beaches or beside the bins?
Perhaps some live in hovels but the majority must have respect for their homes.
Because I was so angry by the mess, after we left the beach and walked onto the seafront, I found all the bins crammed full of rubbish or tipped over with the contents strewn across the path so that'll be the excuse that the rubbish wasn't taken from the beach but, sorry - that's no excuse.
Leaving rubbish on the beach is just not acceptable. The majority of the regular dog walkers pick up after their dogs and I did not see any dog mess today amongst the empty bottles, etc.
However, we have been banned from taking our dogs the whole length of the beach (May until the end of September) but people continue to litter all the way along.
We don't want young people banned from eating and drinking on the beach - it's great to see people enjoying themselves on our very few really nice days, but I think North Tyneside Council need to look at providing more litter bins and emptying them much more frequently.
