In 2007, the Poppy Appeal raised £30million for the work of the Legion to safeguard the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces.
The Poppy Appeal provides the main source of funds to maintain the Legion's many welfare and benevolent schemes in which over 300,000 people are helped each year.
The Poppy Appeal is a very visible way of showing support for this cause. I have agreed that poppies can be sold from Council buildings again this year.
Please buy and wear a poppy and if you could act as a Poppy Appeal volunteer, and are over sixteen, please contact the Poppy Appeal on 0800 085 5924 to put your name forward.
It is important to acknowledge the contribution to our way of life that the ex-service community has made and this is one opportunity for our community to say thank you.
I am delighted to support the cause on behalf of our Council and I'm sure that everyone will buy a Poppy to make this appeal even more successful than last year.
