I WOULD appreciate the opportunity to use your columns to publicly thank customers at Tesco Extra, Norham Road, North Shields, for their generous response to my Rotary Club's collection at that store last weekend when the magnificent total of £514.35 was raised.
I would also like to thank the management and staff of Tesco for their usual help and co-operation, which we are always extremely thankful for.

The money raised on this occasion will be used to pay for a team of local youngsters with disabilities
to take part in the Rotary Disabled Games at Eston Leisure Centre, Normanby, Middlesbrough, on Sunday, July 12.

The day-long event is organised by 15 Rotary Clubs in the north east and 40 other Rotary Clubs also provide transport for youngsters and their parents/guardians to and from the venue, where meals and refreshments are provided too.

Nearly 300 competitors enjoy a wonderful day that costs Rotary several thousands of pounds to stage and involves hundreds of Rotarians in setting up the event and running the many competitions. Corus kindly donates £1,000 towards the costs.

In the current difficult financial circumstances, when commercial concerns are having to reduce their support for charities, it is extremely important that voluntary organisations redouble their efforts to help worthwhile causes to continue their work.

This is only possible with the generous help of members of the general public.

With renewed thanks.

PRESIDENT TAHIR RASHID
The Rotary Club of
Monkseaton Centenary.
