THE Poppy Appeal is organised annually by The Royal British Legion to raise funds for its welfare work with ex-service personnel and their dependants.
The current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are producing many casualties amongst our young servicemen and women and they, together with the veterans of earlier conflicts, continue to need the Legion's support which is financed entirely from the pr
oceeds of the Poppy Appeal.

Last year Whitley Bay and North Shields Branch of the Legion raised the magnificent total of £48,000 the highest of any branch in the county.

We would like to improve on that total this year but, to do so, we need more volunteer poppy collectors.

Anyone who could possibly spare a couple of hours is asked to contact our Poppy Appeal organiser, Mervyn Lisher on (0191) 251 3557 or call at the Legion office in Victoria Terrace on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Our service personnel and veterans need our support – please help us to help them.

Secretary
