North Tyneside Business Forum's annual Business Awards recognise the best of industry, commerce, retail and technology in the borough.

But now they are asking the community for help to identify businesses that have a big heart.

The special “Heart of The Community” award will be presented following a period of public voting as part of the forum’s glittering awards night on November 21, at the Village Hotel, to a deserving North Tyneside SME business that has gone the extra mile to help their local community.

Last year, the award was presented to North Shields-based health and safety business, Carney Consultancy.

The firm supported the local community by being an active committee member of a number of North East charities coupled with the pioneering work they did encouraging more women to enter the construction industry and raising awareness of health and safety to small building firms.

David W Bavaird, Chair of the Forum, said: "The Heart of the Community award is our way of encouraging people to say thank you to a small to medium sized business which has made a significant contribution to the local area.

"The award recognises businesses which show that it is not just the cash flow of a business that counts; it’s about making a positive difference to the people of the borough.

"There are a lot of businesses that do great work for the community and simply don’t shout about it. This is a great opportunity for someone else to shout out on their behalf.”

Nominations are invited for any business that meet a number of key criteria including supporting local initiatives, employing local people, providing excellent customer service and being able to demonstrate making a real positive difference to a community in North Tyneside.

Nominations can be made at www.northtynesidebusinessawards.co.uk/heart-of-the-community/

Closing date for nominations is September 20.
