Glass slipper a perfect fit

A WHITLEY Bay actress is preparing to take her first north east leading role in The Glass Slipper.

Laura Riseborough will by playing Ella Humbleton in Northern Stage’s Christmas show.

The 25-year-old, from North Ridge, Whitley Bay, said: “I’m delighted to be performing in my native Newcastle.”

“It’s magical how everybody involved in an enchanting show like The Glass Slipper works so hard and enthusiastically to bring it to life.

“I think being taken to the theatre at an early age is incredibly important and beneficial. I love the idea that for many of our younger audience members, The Glass Slipper will be their first experience of theatre and hopefully not the last.”

The Glass Slipper is set in 18th Century Newcastle, and is a funny and charming rendition of Cinderella.

The show takes a glimpse inside the life of Ella Humbleton whose mother dies when she is very young and whose father then remarries. This brings with it a devious new stepmother and two exceedingly badly-behaved sisters. But little does she know the adventures awaiting her on the horizon.

The Glass Slipper is at Stage 1 at Northern Stage until January 7, 2012, at 10am, 2pm and 7pm.

Tickets priced from £12.50 are available by visiting or by calling the Northern Stage box office on (0191) 230 5151.
