New book discusses the region from celebrities

Two north east writers have teamed up with a host of the region’s most famous sons and daughters to celebrate the place they all call home.

Michael Hamilton and Anne Graham interviewed stars – including Denise Welch and writer Ian La Frenais, both from Whitley Bay, and former Lindisfarne drummer Ray Laidlaw from Tynemouth – about their memories and favourite places to produce a new book called My North East.

It features 65 celebrities from stage and screen, musical heroes and sporting legends of all ages alongside stunning landscape photographs by leading local photographer Graeme Peacock.

All profits from the venture will be donated to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, as it was Sir Bobby himself who inspired the 200-page hardback book.

Amongst the big names who talk about how the region has shaped them are: Sir Bobby Robson, Tony Blair, Alan Shearer, Sting, Mark Knopfler, Robson Green, Bryan Ferry, Kevin Whately, Denise Welch, Tim Healy, Joe McElderry, Vic Reeves, Sir Bobby and Jack Charlton.

My North East is available now priced at £20, published by Kingfisher Reach Communications.
