Photographic society prepares for its new season

THE new season of Whitley Bay Photographic Society begins next month.

The president’s evening is on September 13 with Gillian Hales taking on the role.

Gillian is an all round photographer who travels widely and has an ability to identify a wide variety of interesting subjects.

The following week, September 20, will see a presenter from Alnwick, Malcolm Kus, whose visit last season had to be abandoned because of heavy snow.

There will also be an informal meeting on September 6 when members bring some of their own images and a selection produced on a recent club outing.

Prospective members are welcome to attend, with more information at

Trophies were presented at the last formal meeting of the previous season after record entries for many of the competitions.

‘Incoming Tide’ was awarded the Print of the Year trophy for Richard Narcross, while Bob Collington shared the Club Class Print of the Year trophy with Peter Farthing, and he also took the Club Class Colour Print trophy.

The Advanced Monochrome Print trophy went to Alan Porrett and the Colour Print trophy to Anne Swearman.

‘Beadnell’ took the Projected Image trophy for Robin Sinton, while Sheelah Barsdell was awarded the Club Class Projected Image trophy. The Advanced PI trophy was tied, with Andrew Nicoll and Alan Porrett gaining equal points.

There are two other PI competitions, the ‘Allan Potts trophy’ for nature subjects and the ‘President’s trophy for a set of three pictures. The former was awarded to Chris Hales and the President’s trophy to Richard Narcross.
