A borough drama group is taking on a revolutionary rock musical.
Linskill Theatre Group will perform Rent later this month at the Linskill Centre in North Shields.
Set in New York’s Bohemian Alphabet City, Rent is a retelling of the classic Puccini opera, La Boheme.
The show tells of a year in the life of a group of struggling artists who learn to fall in love despite poverty, illness and the usual hopes and fears of modern day life, bringing a universal message of hope for everyone.
Adam Duffy, from the group, said: “Rent is not often performed by amateur theatre groups due to some of the ‘taboo’ issues brought to the forefront of the show.
“Linskill Theatre Group does not see these issues as taboo in 2015 but issues which are faced in day to day lives, especially in the lives of people in the community.
“Dealing with poverty and long term illness amongst other things, Rent challenges us to think, and asks us what is important, is it money, belief and politics or is it the memories, friends relationship and of course the one thing no one can live without – love.”
Rent will be at the Linskill Centre from Thursday, June 18, to Saturday, June 20. Tickets are £5 by calling (0191) 257 8000 or at www.ticketsource.co.uk/linskilltheatregroup
