Youngsters get up close to famous gospel book

Pupils at a Cramlington primary school last week welcomed The Gospels Learning Team, made up of staff from Durham University Library and Museums.

The Burnside Primary School pupils learned about the importance of the Lindisfarne Gospels and the journey taken by the monks during the early Anglo-Saxon period.

The team brought in one of Britain’s most significant medieval manuscript to Burnside to show the children, The Lindisfarne Gospels.

Headteacher Jane Ramsay said: “The Lindisfarne Gospels gave the children a memorable learning experience.

“The team also provided the opportunity for them to experience the Anglo-Saxon period, right here at Burnside.

“This experience made our pupils feel very proud of their local area and left them hungry to learn more about Northumberland’s history.”
