300 businesses are helped get started

An organisation supporting entrepreneurs to get on their feet is celebrating after helping set up its 300th business in a year.

North Tyneside Business Factory, funded by North Tyneside Council and ERDF and delivered by Ixion Holdings, offers free advice and professional support to anyone planning to start a business in the borough.

Over the last 12 months, its team of business advisers have helped more than 1,200 people to consider starting up their own business, resulting in 300 new ventures.

And the top five most popular sectors for new business start-ups are property repairs and maintenance, professional business consultancy, creative businesses, retail, and hair and beauty.

Coun Frank Lott, cabinet member responsible for economic development, said: “It’s exciting to welcome this new wave of businesses which are bringing jobs and prosperity to North Tyneside.

“We offer an exceptional service to anyone considering setting up a business and our hope is that we are not only helping develop the new businesses, we’re helping boost the borough’s business sector by creating the right climate for business innovation, expertise and success.”

Last month, The Business Factory announced the introduction of a range of specialist help and support for individuals looking to set up high growth businesses across the borough.

A range of experienced professionals are on hand to work with individuals on a one-to-one basis to offer hands on practical help.
