A woman has been raped in North Shields.

Police are appealing for information after the 20-year-old was raped by a man as she walked on Trevor Terrace between 12.45am and 12.50am on Saturday, November 7.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who may have information to help the investigation is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Donna Rose said: “An investigation into the incident is underway and we appeal to anyone who may have been in or around Trevor Terrace at the time of the incident and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact police.

“We believe the offender had a dog with him at the time of the incident and we ask anyone who may remember seeing a man with a dog in Trevor Terrace in the early hours of Saturday, November 7, to contact us.”

“We are working with the victim to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident. Specialist officers are giving her all of the help and support she needs.”

A 41-year-old man has been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and who might have seen a man with a dog, or heard any suspicious activity to contact them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 0084 07/11/15.
