Archery club begin '˜have-a-go' days for beginners

The Bowmen of Backworth's 2016 summer season begins with its first '˜Have-a-Go' day on Saturday, April 2.

The event will then be repeated on every first Saturday of the month until October and is an introduction to the sport of archery.

The day runs from 11am to 4pm with free car parking.

The events are open to all, with equipment and instruction provided. Only a small charge will be made for the use of the arrows.

The group are always looking for potential archers and future Olympic champions.

Apart from the ‘Have-a-Go’ events, various form of archery will be demonstrated, from the simple long bow to the ultra-modern compound bow, which, to the bystander, has an amazing conglomeration of strings, pulleys and bits stuck on everywhere.

Archers will be on hand to explain archery in all of its forms.

Participants wishing to go further can sign-up to a beginners course, the first two start in May.

The sessions are held at Archery Field, Backworth Miners’ Welfare, Backworth NE27 0AH.
