Archie take his idol into the classroom

A young speedway star took one of his idols back school for a special assembly last week.

Archie Freeman, Newcastle Diamonds mascot, was joined at Bailey Green Primary School in Killingworth by the team’s number one rider Ludvig Lindgren.

The nine-year-old showed the Swedish star what he gets up to during the day.

By day, Archie is a normal schoolboy but at the weekend he dons his racing suit and races his 125cc speedway bike around Brough Park and other northern tracks.

Lindgren, 23, who is based in Whitley Bay, said: “I think it’s great that Archie rides with us, he can be seen regularly riding around the Brough Park circuit on race days.

“He is a real little character and he is already talking like a more senior rider and I’m sure he will go far in our sport, but he mustn’t forget about his school work.

“I went along to his school with one of my bikes, had a look at what he gets up to, explained to the rest of the school what speedway is all about, and tell them that you have to stick in and work hard to achieve your goals in life.”

He was joined by junior development officer Dave Rowland, who got Archie into speedway three years ago.
