Armed robber steals cash from newsagents

An armed robber stole cash from a newsagents in Wallsend.

The man entered Diane’s Newsagency, in Angle Terrace, armed with what witnessed said was a handgun and demanded cash.

An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over and he left the shop with the cash in a small plastic bag.

The staff member was shocked by otherwise uninjured.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the robbery, which happened just before 7am on Friday, February 6.

The offender is described as a man, tall and slim build wearing a black balaclava over his face, yellow hooded with the hood up, blue jeans and dark footwear.

Chief Inspector Steve Readdie, of North Tyneside Area Command said: “We have extra officers on patrol in the area to reassure residents and answer any concerns people may have.”
