Armed robbers steal cash from gym

A quantity of cash has been stolen from a North Tyneside gym during an armed robbery.

Two men went into ‘Xercise for less’ on Whitley Road, Benton, armed with what is believed to be a handgun and threatened staff.

They then made off with a quantity of cash.

No one was injured during the incident, which happened at 6.30pm on Sunday, February 23, but members of staff were left shaken.

One of the offenders is described as being around 19-years-old, 5ft 8ins tall, of skinny build, wearing a dark hoody, dark scarf around his face and gloves. He spoke with a local accent.

The second offender is described as around 17-years-old, smaller build than the first male, wearing a tracksuit and trainers.

Officers are carrying out enquiries to trace the offenders and asking anyone with information to contact them.

Extra officers are in the area both to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to people who may be concerned.

Detective Sergeant Mick Garrett said: “We’re carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible and would ask anyone who has any information to get in contact.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area and saw the males or who may know their identity.”
