Armed robbery at borough hotel

STAFF at a North Shields hotel were threatened by a man with a knife during an armed robbery this morning.

At 2.33am today – Tuesday, October 16, police received a report that a robbery had taken place at The Village Hotel at Cobalt Business Park in North Shields.

A man armed with a knife had gone into the hotel and threatened staff, making off with a quantity of cash and a red car belonging to a staff member.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered nearby. No-one was injured during the incident, and an extensive search of the area was carried out.

The suspect was wearing a tank top hooded top with white t-shirt underneath and brown jogging bottoms. He had his hood up and his face covered.

DI John Gardner said: “The man threatened staff with a knife and made off with cash from the hotel. Staff were obviously left shocked and distressed but no-one was injured during the robbery.

“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries into the robbery and would urge any witnesses, anyone who saw the man leave the red car in nearby Merton Lane or anyone with information about who is responsible to contact us as soon as possible.”
