Armed robbery of borough bank

A BANK in Wallsend has been robbed and an amount of money stolen.

Officers received a report of a robbery at the Nationwide on High Street East in Wallsend at 1.20pm today, Friday March 15.

A man walked into the building society and handed a note to staff saying that he had a gun and telling them to pass him cash, which they did.

Enquires are at an early stage in relation to how much money may have been taken.

No gun was seen and no one was injured.

The man is described as having dark stubble, wearing dark track suit bottoms and trainers and he was carrying a black shoulder bag.
