Following a ‘controlled pursuit’ of a stolen car in North Tyneside this morning, police officers have arrested two people.
At about 3.50am, Northumbria Police received a report of a burglary in Tynemouth. Keys to a car were taken during the burglary and the vehicle was subsequently stolen and driven away.
A force spokesman said: “Later on Sunday morning, at approximately 9.30am, police became aware of the stolen vehicle in Wallsend and carried out a controlled pursuit of the vehicle, which came to an end on Chirton Lane, North Shields.
“Following the pursuit, two people were arrested.”
Detective Superintendent Mick Paterson said: “This was a very serious offence and our officers acted quickly and effectively to apprehend the offenders.
“Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries and would ask anyone with information to call police on 101 – quoting log 194 13/05/18.”
