Audiobook king will give free library talk

A borough man who has recorded a record-breaking 705 audiobooks will be holding a free talk next week.

Award-winning narrator Gordon Griffin, from Whitley Bay, will hold the talk at Whitley Bay Library on October 14, entitled Speaking Volumes.

“It’s fun and anecdotal about how a lad from Whitley Bay became the person who recorded more books then anyone else,” he said.

Gordon, who is one of the top five most ‘borrowed” narrators in the world, moved to Whitley Bay from Newcastle when he was six.

He now lives in Hampstead in London, but still retains his connection with Whitley Bay which he regards as his home town.

Gordon has had a wide and varied acting career appearing in everything from Shakespeare to rocks musicals. He spoke the first lines of the first episode of Byker Grove and also recorded the announcements for London Underground and was one of the people telling passengers to ‘Mind the Gap’.

The free talk will take place at Whitley Bay Library at 2pm on Wednesday, October 14.
