WAR heroes eligible for veteran lapel badges are being encouraged to come forward.
North Tyneside Council is hosting a ceremony on Monday, June 20, to mark Britain’s third Armed Forces Day.
The event will feature a presentation of lapel badges to ex-services personnel and the families of those currently serving.
Anyone who has served in the armed forces, including the volunteer and regular reserves and is currently a resident of North Tyneside, is entitled to apply for a lapel badge via the council.
Those eligible are urged to contact the council, and it will send applications to the Ministry of Defence on their behalf.
Successful applicants will be invited to the presentation ceremony.
The event, a successor to the old Veterans’ day which saw 40 former armed forces personnel receive lapel badges last year, is being organised by the council with help from the borough’s war veterans’ committee.
Deputy mayor Coun Judith Wallace said: “North Tyneside Council is extremely proud of our armed forces, and we’re pleased to be able to honour our servicemen and women, both past and present.
“We hope everyone who qualifies for a lapel badge comes forward to help make the event on Armed Forces Day a wonderful occasion.”
Veterans who would like to be presented with one of the badges should call (0191) 643 7409, e-mail malcolm.henderson@northtyneside. gov.uk or write to: Malcolm Henderson, events officer, North Tyneside Council, Quadrant West, Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside, NE27 0BY.
