Badminton club lands £750 grant

NORTH Tyneside’s Tyne Met Badminton Club has been given a £750 grant to spend on facilities and training.

The club, set up last August, offers children aged from seven to 16 the chance to play badminton outside school.

It has already achieved Badminton England premier club status under the leadership of Mike Woodward, a former national junior coach.

The club will spend its grant from Betfair and SportsAid’s Cash 4 Clubs programme on training two coaches to a higher level, booking additional facilities as the club expands and new equipment.

Mike said: “Our grant of £750 is going to go a long way.

“We’re purchasing additional equipment and hoping to send two volunteers on coaching courses.

“The end result will be more knowledgeable coaches delivering more interesting training sessions with varied and up-to-date equipment.”
