Biker dies after crashing into road sign

A MOTORCYCLIST died after crashing into a road sign in Northumberland at the weekend.

Andrew Turnbull, of Alnwick Street in Wallsend, was travelling south on the A696 near Belsay on Sunday when his Kawasaki bike left the road.

The 45-year-old was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment, but the multiple injuries he sustained in the crash proved fatal.

The road was closed for four hours to allow police crash investigators to examine the scene.
