Cycling enthusiasts from around North Tyneside came together to support a local charity by taking part in a sponsored bike ride.

Starting at the Rising Sun Country Park in Wallsend, the group cycled 21 miles each to gain sponsorship for Independent Advocacy North Tyneside, a charity supporting people with disabilities and mental health issues.

The charity supports more than 600 people living in North Tyneside each year and decided to move towards fundraising to enable them to expand their range of activities and services.

This is the second fundraising activity organised for the charity this year and follows a successful event in August where a group of year 11 students organised a fancy-dress sponsored walk raising more than £500.

The charity’s chief executive officer Keith Thomson said: “It was incredible to see the support and enthusiasm of everyone involved, from volunteers, to staff, trustees and members of local businesses.

“Many members of the public were interested in the work of our charity.

“We hope the event will grow into a regional and annual event, open to involve more people.”
