A FIRE near Cullercoats Bay led to two rescue crews being called out on Friday.
Rescuers from Cullercoats RNLI station and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were alerted to the blaze just after 7pm and went out to investigate.
The source of the smoke was found to be a fire in a cave at Cullercoats beach.
The call out was put down as a false alarm with good intent.
To prevent further calls, the fire was extinguished using buckets of water from the lifeboat station.
