Boat had no safety gear

A YACHT skipper was given safety advice after setting out on a trip without the necessary equipment.

Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) were called out just after 4.05pm on Sunday after reports the 26ft Jarra Lass had broken down in the lower Tyne harbour.

The vessel, which had three adults and two children on board, was towed back to the Royal Quays Marina where TVLB captains issued safety advice to the skipper as he had sailed without his VHF radio, any lifejackets or distress flares.
