Body is found in bin at shopping parade

A body has been found in a recycling bin behind shops near Shiremoor.

Police were called to the Northumberland Park shopping parade on Sunday morning after the grim discovery was made.

The body of a 31-year-old man had been found in the bin just after 8.15am.

Inquiries are continuing into the death, but police say it is not believed to be suspicious.

A police spokesman said: “At 8.17am on Sunday, October 25, police were called to Earsdon Road, Shiremoor, following reports of a body in a recycle bin.

“Officers attended the scene and the body of a 31-year-old man was recovered from the bin.

“Inquiries are ongoing into the death. There is not believed to be any third-party involvement.

“A report is being prepared for the coroner.”
