Bon a-pie-tite as care home marks week
Residents at a Whitley Bay care home said bon a-pie-tite for a special celebration.
Wellfield-based care home Earsdon Grange marked British Pie Week with a Big Pie Tasting Party which featured a coffee morning and pie cook-off competition, with staff bringing along a home-baked pie.
Residents, staff and guests at Earsdon Grange, which provides residential care for the elderly and those living with dementia, tucked into the pie’d and tested recipes before scoring the pies out of ten based on presentation and taste.
The winners of the sweet and savoury category were Jeff Douglas, with his corned beef, potato and onion pie, and care assistant Jackie Moor who made an apple pie.
Care home manager Nicola Bell said: “We place a lot of importance on providing our residents with the food they love. Many grew up enjoying home-cooked pie dishes so we thought that it would be a great way to celebrate pie week by trying a selection of traditional and newer recipes.”
“The pie tasting party went down very well and we hope to host similar bake-and-taste days at our weekly coffee mornings in the near future.”
