Thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and jigsaws have been collected over the last four weeks by members of the Whitley Bay Scouts for their annual book sale.

The sale has been running for more than 15 years, attracting visitors and customers from all over the north east and helping raise tens of thousands of pounds for scouting equipment and activities in the Whitley Bay area.

It is the Scout’s main fundraising event in the year, and last year saw more than £5,000 raised for District funds.

A spokesman for the Scout District said: “We have had a great response from the public and are very grateful to everyone who has donated books.

“We have a team of volunteers who will sort all the books alphabetically and in their categories before the sale.”

The sale is being held at the District Scout Headquarters, Quarry Centre, Broadway, Cullercoats, from February 16 to 21.

It will be open 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday; 11am to 3pm on Sunday; plus late night openings 7pm to 9pm from Tuesday to Thursday.
