An initiative is aiming to bring isolated people together for Christmas.

Whitley Bay resident Caz Lamb is organising a meal on Christmas Day to bring together 36 people for the day.

The meal will take place at the Oxford Street Church Hall, in Oxford Street, Whitley Bay.

Food will be served from 2pm, with attendees being picked up by local helpers from 1pm.

They will also be taken home after the event.

Caz said: “This is aimed at the elderly who will be alone this Christmas.

“We have a chef and his wife who will cook everything for us. We’ve got the turkey, all the vegetables and gifts as well.

“It’s going to be a lovely day, and we have afternoon entertainment afterwards.

“We want people from the community, those who are feeling on their own, to get in touch.

“We will even take those people from care homes, they are welcome to attend as well.”

Any elderly resident keen to attend the Christmas lunch can contact Caz on 07956 121088.

Alternatively, people can get in touch via the North East Coastal Chums group on Facebook.
