Hundreds of residents are expected to get creative on Whitley Bay beach this weekend.
The eighth Whitley Bay Sandcastle competition, organised by Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade and North Tyneside Council, is taking place.
It is being held on Sunday, July 19, in front of the Rendezvous Cafe.
Entrants are reminded to bring their own bucket and space.
Registration is from 10am to noon and judging will take place from 12.30pm.
June Tolson, of the Chamber of Trade, said: “This is an opportunity for children, families and groups of friends to build either a sandcastle or a sand sculpture.
“Over the past years we have seen varying examples of great ‘medieval’ style sandcastles as well as sculptures such as sugar cone ice cream with chocolate flake, dinosaurs, whales, turtles, the lighthouse and many more.
“You are never too old to build sandcastles.
“Let’s make this the best ever competition.”
There will also be Shuggy boats, Hopscotch Entertainment characters, face painters and other entertainment.
