BUDGET: Playhouse cuts would be folly
I see the Conservative party published its objections to the mayor's budget 2016-19.
It wants to take away the subsidy to the Whitley Bay Playhouse. This would bring about its demise. An incredible act of folly.
The Whitley Bay Playhouse is an important part of Whitley Bay, economically and socially.
The Playhouse’s presence brings in trade, holiday makers, and others to our local economy.
Its creative presence affects the development of our young people, and the rest of us, into more rounded, happier individuals, whether by song, dance, pantomime or plays. It is a creative space many other areas envy.
I suggest the local Conservative party would be better lobbying its London masters to withdraw the astonishing and unnecessary £56m austerity cuts to North Tyneside.
