Burglars break into children's nursery and steal money

Police are appealing for information after cash was stolen from a children's nursery.

Officers were called to Children’s Choice Nursery on Norham Road, Monkseaton, following reports of a burglary.

It happened overnight between 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 16, and 6am on Wednesday, August 17.

Offenders climbed over a fence and forced entry into the premises and searched inside before stealing the safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

They left without being seen.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Barbara Gilhespy said: “Officers are investigating the break-in and are appealing for help from the public to find those responsible.”

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
