Pub chain Mitchells & Butlers took over the former Magic Lantern pub in Preston Road North, North Shields, and spent £520,000 giving it a renovation inside and out to create the new look establishment.
Eight staff members were retained while 30 new jobs were created at the Harvester pub and restaurant.
Deputy manager Callum MacPherson said: “We’re delighted to have helped create 30 new jobs for local people.
“It took six to eight weeks to transform the venue into the new premises.
“We’ve done the whole building up and the company spent £520,000 re-doing the inside and outside.
“It was a total overhaul. We have put in brand new tables, given everything a re-paint, put in new lights, re-tiled the floor and put in new carpets.
“Local residents have said they have loved the change over. They say they really like the family friendly feel and responded well, we’ve had lots of compliments.
“It’s primarily a restaurant with a bar area.”
The pub is open 9am to 11pm, seven days a week, with food served from 9am to 10pm.
• The Harvester is holding a Family Fun Day to help raise money for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. It will take place from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, May 31.
Attractions include a bouncy castle, merry-go-round for children, tombola, cake stand, magician, face painting, cake stall, arts and crafts, colouring competition, stalls, and more.
There will also be a visit by Bumblebee, from Transformers, and Elsa, of Frozen, between 2pm and 3pm.
