A SHIREMOOR tradesman has won the right to call himself the ‘most trusted decorator in the country’.

Robbie Dodds was selected from more than a thousand nominations following a campaign by paint manufacturer Dulux to find the UK’s most dependable decorator.

Robbie, who runs Dodds R Decorators, was presented with the accolade at a glittering awards ceremony at The Belfry Hotel in the West Midlands on Saturday.

Homeowners were asked to nominate decorators and an independent judging panel then selected ten regional winners who went on to battle it out in the final.

Robbie was chosen as the regional winner for the north east after customers praised his reliability, precision and cheerful character.

A panel of industry experts then put the finalists through their paces, before deciding who should walk away with the title of the UK’s most trusted decorator and a prize of free fuel for a year.

Robbie said: “I was over the moon when I was selected as the regional winner of the competition, and to win the overall prize is just overwhelming.

“It’s very important to me that my customers are happy with my work, so to win a competition that is based on their feedback is a real honour.

“It’s very satisfying to know that my customers value the work I do for them, and I’m extremely grateful to everyone that nominated me.”

One of the judges, TrustMark chief executive Roman Russocki, said: “Choosing a winner certainly wasn’t easy. All of the finalists were superb candidates and fantastic examples of what’s great about the painting and decorating trade.

“However, Robbie stood out because it was very clear to us that he is dedicated to giving his all on every job he works on.

“Robbie demonstrated a real sense of pride in his work and it was obvious that his priority is firmly focused on ensuring that his customers are completely satisfied with every piece of work he carries out, regardless of how large of small it may be.

“He is an excellent example of a TrustMark registered firm.”

Marketing director at AkzoNobel, Dulux’s parent company, Anne Tattersall, added: “I couldn’t be more pleased for Robbie, who sums up everything that the competition stands for.

“Robbie’s customers speak of him in very high regard and the judges felt that he was fully deserving of the first-class reputation he has built up.

“Robbie is not only passionate about his craft, but also hugely committed to making sure that he produces great results for his customers every time.”
