A primary school teacher has swapped the classroom for drumsticks after turning her hobby into a new business.
Sarah Sutton, from Whitley Bay, has established ‘Boom!’ to offer drumming workshops to a range of participants including after-school clubs, community groups and those working with the elderly.
The 43-year-old discovered her love of drumming after attending Big Noise, a drumming and percussion workshop group established last year by the Whitley Bay Big Local Partnership.
Sarah received support from the partnership as well as mentoring advice from Nik Alevroyiannis who has been working with the Big Noise.
She said: “Having been a teacher for many years, I was keen to utilise my skills and to continue and expand my work in the community.
“Through seeing and experiencing for myself the benefits an activity like drumming can bring, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to combine my new-found passion with the chance to work for myself.”

Sarah is also a member of the Whitley Bay Big Local Partnership.
Sarah ran a taster workshop at Whitley Bay Baptist Church Hall earlier this month and is keen to engage with anyone who would like to give this a try or works with people who could really benefit from this stress busting, therapeutic activity.
