Children are making sure they are seen this winter as the darker nights continue.

Richardson Dees Primary School has teamed up with officers from the Wallsend Neighbourhood Policing team for a road safety campaign.

During the winter term, each student has been provided with a high-viz jacket.

The campaign, supported by Smyths Toys who have provided the jackets, aims to get every student wearing the item to and from school.

And certificates will be given out to every student who wears their jacket for 80 per cent of the period.

Police launched the campaign with a special visit and will return before the end of term to congratulate those who took part.

Officials from North Tyneside Council will also be attending the school to complete road safety lessons with the students, including a visit by the parking enforcement vehicle.
