The charity’s dementia service has teamed up with Music in Hospitals to secure funding for a programme of 16 performances.

A solo artist or group will perform a mix of musical genres, from classical and folk to swing and pop, at Age UK’s wellbeing centres in Cedar Grove, Wallsend, and Linskill Park, North Shields.

The events, which run from this month until December, are open to all Age UK clients, but are particularly targeted at those with dementia to help stimulate memories and improve quality of life.

Dementia service manager Jane Lamont said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve secured funding for this exciting community project.”

Music in Hospitals organises about 4,500 concerts a year for people receiving care.
