Cash stolen as security guard is threatened by armed robber

A security guard was threatened by an armed robbery during a theft in a street.

The security guard was approached by a man armed with a knife in Frank Street, outside the old Wallsend Town Hall, at 1.15pm on Wednesday, April 29.

The offender threatened the guard and stole a black cash box, containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber then made off along High Street East in a black Citroen Saxa car driven at speed with other people inside.

The security guard was shocked but otherwise unharmed.

The man who stole the cash box is described as white, of stocky build, wearing grey jogging bottoms, and a dark coloured top.

The car used in the robbery was found by police in nearby Northumberland Street, in Wallsend, a short time later.

Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries in the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone who was in the area who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
