A special event is being held to celebrate the work carried out by volunteers to improve Whitley Bay.
Whitley Bay Big Local is holding a volunteers’ celebration evening at its shop in Park View at 6pm on Tuesday, March 22.
The event will see commemorative Whitley Bay Big Local button badges presented to individuals who, during the last year, have generously given up their own time to lend a hand or support a variety of activities in the town.
Sarah Sutton, volunteer co-ordinator, said: “The evening will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the efforts of so many people.
“Our volunteers have contributed so much and without whom, none of these things would be possible.”
The evening will also serve as an opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering to find out more.
Carol Alevroyianni, producer of this year’s Whitley Bay Carnival, said: “We are very lucky to have a very talented and creative team coming together to help make this year’s circus-themed event a reality but we also need many, many more people to help with the preparations such as costume making, and creating props and decorations.”
“There will be plenty of help and support from the great team that we have behind us for anyone who wants to lend a hand – it is something that everyone can get involved with, a real opportunity for everyone to come together and it’s the contributions made by those who do volunteer their time that make the Carnival the truly special event that it is.”
Volunteers will also be sought for a range of upcoming projects and activities including tree planting in Whitley Park.
The Whitley Bay Carnival takes place on Saturday, May 28, with the parade starting from Whitley Bay Metro Station at 11am and ending at the Spanish City Plaza where music, street entertainment and food stalls will run throughout the day from 10am.
