A businesswoman has marked two decades of operating by raising more than £6,000 for charity.
Louise Appleby, owner of Magenta Hair and Therapy in Beverly Terrace, Cullercoats, has celebrated 20 years in business by raising a whopping £6,252 for Cancer Research UK, with money still coming in.
Louise held a fundraising event at Percy Park Rugby Club in Tynemouth, which included a ‘Ladies’ Day’ theme, a sponsored wax, raffle, music and entertainment and a fashion show.
Stand-up comedian Steffen Peddie, who plays Big Keith in BBC2’s Hebburn, was compere for the event and he judged the Magenta Bake Off competition.
Magenta beautician Kerry Parr, 21, braved the clippers and shaved off her locks to help raise extra funds.
Louise chose to support the charity after her friend, Karen McConnon, of Gosforth, died of breast cancer in 2003, aged 37.
Louise said: “The event was absolutely brilliant and far exceeded my expectations.
“I feel proud to have been in business for 20 years and to have marked that with such an amazing event for such a worthy cause.”
