Local musicians Jake Houlsby and Sam Wright performed to crowds of shoppers at The Beacon Shopping Centre in North Shields and The Forum Shopping Centre in Wallsend.

Staff were on hand to give out hundreds of red roses and heart-shaped cookies.

In addition, The Forum played host to a Valentine’s Day pop up photo booth competition. Gill Latimer, from Wallsend, won the award for best selfie and claimed a £50 restaurant voucher.

Dave Menzies, centre manager at The Beacon Shopping Centre, said: “It was great to see shoppers enjoy themselves and get in the mood for Valentine’s Day.”

“Our retailers ensured that shoppers had a wide range of items to choose from when it came to presents for their loved ones, while Jake’s personal take on classic love songs really made the day a very special one for the local community.”

Nick Lambert, centre manager at The Forum Shopping Centre, said: “Sam’s music really set the scene for the event and it felt truly wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of shoppers when they received a complimentary rose or heard their favourite romantic number being played.”
