Two shopping centres reported an increase in footfall as part of Black Friday.

The Beacon Centre, in North Shields, and The Forum Shopping Centre, in Wallsend, reported a boost in sales and footfall.

In line with the trend, retailers at The Beacon in North Shields and The Forum in Wallsend, such as B&M, Wilko, Boots, Bonmarché, Holland & Barrett and The Works, shared a wide range of offers and promotions that ran throughout Black Friday and the subsequent Saturday and Sunday.

And figures showed a footfall of over 71,413 across the two centres.

Nick Lambert, The Forum Centre manager, said: “Black Friday has become a really ideal opportunity for us to kick-start the Christmas shopping season in a budget-friendly way.

“We saw big numbers to be making their way to stores like Home Bargains and Boots for Christmas gifts.”

David Menzies, The Beacon Centre manager, said: “We have seen more than 46,000 shoppers through our doors this Black Friday weekend and we’re expecting The Beacon to be extremely busy throughout the festive period.

“We have a number of Christmas events planned in the weeks to come and those always prove to be very popular with the local community.”
