Chance to earn medal in reading challenge

YOUNGSTERS currently taking inspiration from the Olympics are being encouraged to try and earn their own medal.

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, called Story Lab, encourages children to read six books from their local library.

For each book read, the children will receive rewards including a key ring, collectors card, stickers, wristband and, on completion of the challenge, a medal and lanyard.

There will also be events in the libraries as part of the initiative.

Coun George Westwater, cabinet member for community and regulatory services, said: “We want to ensure that children and young people in North Tyneside get the best start in life.”
